Is the bowerbird the most romantic animal in the world?
The bowerbird is famous for its unique courtship behaviour, where males build a structure and decorate it with sticks and brightly coloured objects in an attempt to woo females.
The male bower bird builds a beautiful home to attract the female of the species. They build a large hut (100cmx160cm),with two columns at the entrance and a sapling at he centre. The entrance to the hut is cleaned and laid out with moss. The bowerbird then decorates the entrance with colourful flowers, fruits, dead leaves and any other shiny things that it can find.
Should a female venture towards the entrance the male runs into the bower and begins to sing to her, watching her from afar.
