Wombat pooh is square
‘Nature abhors a straight line,’ said the eminent 18th centure English landscape architect, William Kent. Well the wombat begs to differ. The Australian marsupial is the only animal in the world to poo in squares.
Patricia Yang, a researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology analysed their intestines and discovered that parts of them are more stretchy than others resulting in the cubic shape. The fact that wombats poo is very dry helps them retain the rare cubic shape.
